Hi everybody! Last year my car started to leak hydraulic fluid. My mechanic told me it was the pump that was doing it. So, I had the pump replaced. For nearly six months I had no leaks. But, once again, the car was leaking. My mechanic replaced the pump (again) under warranty (thank goodness). That was less than two months ago. But guess what! It's leaking again! He has replaced the pump with ZF rebuilt units both times. Is there something he could be doing wrong? Or does ZF just make crap for componentry?
Leaking pentosin!

If the pumps are rebuilt correctly they will last indefinitely. Check that the leak is coming from the plugs rather than the seals. Also, have another company supply the replacement - whoever is rebuilding them is not doing it properly.
Well, I do trust my mechanic, he has never been wrong plus he has always given me an extremely good deal. This is the only thing I have had trouble with. He gets the pumps directly from ZF. Perhaps they don't know how to rebuild their own components!
Getting a good deal is irrelevant. Audi V8s have to be cared for by experts and sometimes that is expensive. If sounds like your ZF supplier needs to be changed. You can actually rebuild them yourself - not that difficult. See here:

Getting a good deal certainly is not irrelevant. I suppose I just lucked out with the mechanic I have because he is very good at what he does and he is also inexpensive. I posted this thread in the hopes that someone might know what's happening with this friggin' hydraulic pump, no to be chastised over the cost of the hired wrench. Like I said before, these pumps are factory rebuilt, by ZF!
Hallo
It maybe not your pump at all. I had a similar problem. Bought a replacement pump only to find out that the pipe from the Servo fluid header tank was weeping and it run down the pipe and over the pump. At the first look it seemed that the pump was leaking from the front of the pump where the shaft goes into the housing. Check your pipes it could be the same problem.

Not saying change your mechanic. But whoever at ZF is doing the rebuilds is not doing it correctly - obviously! Why doesn't your mechanic purchase a rebuild kit from Audi and do it himself - it really is not that hard.
Hey! Does the fluid leak on to the exhaust and cause it to smoke? mines just started leaking you may have the same problem, and can help me.
Hey this will probably help you guys, I thought my pump was gone it was shooting out fluid everywhere. After a closer look I noticed that one of the plugs was leaking. After searching for a part number for days I finally found one. The part number is 026 145 541. This is the plug and the seal, this one part number fits all the plugs on the pump. I think that it was 8 buks for one. That was much better than buying a pump. Also there is a high presure line that runs up and over the master cylinder of the car that runs right into the rack. This had a small slit in the hose and was spraying on my exhaust cauing it to smoke badly. I had the hose made for like 12 bucks. I hope this helps JIMMY
