in my search for a beautiful V8 I recently drove a rehearsal. Since this was only my second ride with a V8, and I am still a bit inexperienced, I would like to know if the following behavior is normal or not. And, if not, what could be the cause. So...
Engine runs in idle on "N" or "P" flawless: round, quiet, vibration-free. If you switch to "D", the idle speed (clear) drops, but the engine sounds much more buzzing, at the same time the motor run becomes palpable. So if you wait with inserted "D" at the traffic light, it is not particularly pleasant, because of a V8 you would want a (both acoustic and "haptic") quieter motor run. For comparison: My C4 2.8 is significantly smoother when the clutch is kicked at the traffic light!
Second thing: The engine braking effect seemed very low. For example, if you drive through the village at 50 km/h and a red traffic light becomes further ahead, you take the gas away. But the V8 did not slow down. So it was more like rolling in a switchcar with the clutch kicked than with the gear inserted and the clutch not kicked. It's almost like you've got a cruiser in it. (Can't be, the car doesn't have a...
)The car was otherwise very nice and well cared for, only the above behaviors have made me a bit stunned.
Thanks for the answers!
Ciao,
Jens
