I have to know one thing:
When was the 5-speed automatic machine installed in the 4.2?
According to an Audi book that I have before me, this happened only from model year 97 (so probably from 8 or 9.96). But when I look through advertisements, there are always with e.g. 1.96 or 3.96, that the 5-speed Aut. should have?!?!?!?!?!!
Who knows exactly when the change from 4- to 5-course was made? (The 3.7 had always had the 5-course aut.)
Please don't guess, because I think this is quite important and I don't want to make any interesting phone calls afterwards, in order to make a possible call. Mistakes to find out about...

du sprichst mir aus der seele, versuche das auch schon ewig heraus zu finden.
mit dem modellwechsel scheint schon in etwa ok zu sein.
im prospekt 8/95 wird der 4.2 jedenfalls noch mit 4-gang angeboten und nur 2.8 und 3.7 als 5-gang tiptronic.
laut zf (wohl nicht offiziell) soll die 4-gang der leistung nicht vollends gewachsen sein.
