I'm about to get an A8, but the more ads I look at, the more I read about gear problems with the Autom. I wanted one from 97, max. 96 buy and read more and more often, that "exchange gears, does not switch correctly, emergency program..." It can't be that the 5-speed tip. gear is so vulnerable and often gives up the mind at 140,000km, right?
Does the 5-speed machine in the 3.7er last better than the 4.2er or the S8 because the engine is limper?
Have any of you ever had your gear repaired at ZF? How much was that?
What am I supposed to do? I don't have a nerve on a hand switch.

Thanks for the constructive tips!

P.S. If you look for Autoscout24 from BJ96-99, you will find some with new gears. This is just an excerpt of the A8 for sale. I wonder how many are still affected, but not for sale...
