Electronic differential lock EDS

I found the following point on EDS on page 113 in the operating instructions of the A8, which irritates me somewhat:

"The system monitors the speed of the drive wheels up to a speed of about 40 km/h with the help of ABS sensors. In the control area of the system, rotating wheels (e.g. on a slippery road) specifically braked and thereby fed the wheels with the better traction an increased drive force."

A little later it says:

"To prevent the disc brake of the braked wheel from being overheated, the EDS is temporarily switched off with unusually heavy loads."

So I thought so far that a differential lock would create a rigid connection between the wheels of an axis... the description here in the operating instructions (especially because of the hint of the overheated disc brake) describes - did I at least think - ASR...???

Anybody know more?

Greetings,
Michi
