Chassis/wheels original Audi. At first, a lot of me an instability at speeds above 140 km/h – mainly with long ground waves. Up to 140 km/h everything OK.

Feels spongy, swingy at the same way as in a Mercedes S-Class 85 or sucked shock absorbers at the back.
All my previous V8s – 3 pieces 3.6 and 4.2l with 245/40 17 Boleros – were on the first class highway, but not too hard, ideal for high motorway speeds.

The A8 behaves like a rocking horse.
After my visit to the "friendly Audi contractor", the comment was new tires.
Okay. made new tires 225/55 17 Bridgestone for 600,- EUR on the original Audi rim – no improvement.

Furthermore, the recommendation to drive to the Tüv or the Dekra and to have a shock absorber test done, as the Audiwerkstatt has no shock absorber tester.

Also made – result of the TÜV: all dampers O.K. Max. 10 % below new value of attenuation behaviour.

Let's go back to Audi. I say to the master again the same as described above: 3 V8, 85 Daimler etc. and that this can't be normal for a 95 4.2 A8.
Master drives the A8 to the rehearsal. During the ride, the man on the handlebar breaks like a lunatic, although I tell him that it only occurs from 140 km/h with long ground waves – the faster the more drastic and simulable the easiest at 160-170 km/h by the handlebar l e i c h t (approx. 1-2 cm) moved to the right and left.
After several attempts by the master not to tear the car, but to move easily back and forth: "It's really funny, unstable, the rear runs behind and the car swings up.
Well, I thought, mistakes experienced – as such also perceived. He checks the hardness in front of the workshop by hand on the rear shock absorbers and says they are too soft. I'll show him the TÜV expression of the shock absorber test and he thinks it's still too soft. Then we go to an S8 demonstration car and he shows that the hardener is. I say to him, clearly he also has a different chassis.

Still, other shock absorbers have to come in, he says. Okay. Date made, 3 days later, 500,- EUR for 2 rear shock absorbers paid incl. Installation, on the occasion a new steering (light leak) for 1500,- EUR and subsequent measurement.
Car picked up, still the same. Instable, spongy and rocking.

Back to Audi. Another master takes the car on stage and checks with the screwdriver the bearing play of the suspensions and crossbars. He doesn't notice a game too high in any camp.
I say to Him – so it's normal that an A8 4.2l quattro has such driving behavior?
He wouldn't know that either, since he would rarely have driven an A8 over the highway for a long time.

Now I'm tired of it and think that maybe it could be the tires (walking). Ebay sends his regards and I find one in the Sauerland, the original Audi 18 inch rims with almost new Dunlop SP Sport 8000 tyres (as with my predecessor V8) 245/45.
See, first improvement – the swinging only takes place from approx. 180 km/h and it all feels safer and more sovereign.

The tyre seller also owns a 95 he A8, with 20 customs and H&R chassis. I ask him: just because of the optics or because of the driving behaviour?
He thinks that the change was mainly about driving behaviour, since the car would have been a life-threatening ship swing at higher speeds.
Do I have to buy a V8 now, since an Audi A8 has an absolutely bad driving behaviour like a V8, or have an S8 or other suspension installed? Are feathers rich, or do they have to be other dampers?
If someone has experienced similar things with an A8, due to bad driving behaviour I would look forward to an answer.
All a good ride.

Greetings,
Peter
