I've had an A6 C4 2.6 so far and was very happy with the thing. After one year of Audi abstinence, I need something with four rings again. Basically I would be satisfied with an A6 C4, which I have looked at up to now, however, were often run down or down. Degraded. I often have a lot of problems. Rust found... yes, rust! bonnet (side), fender, tailgate.
With the A8 from these years of construction, I now hope for a better hit rate, thanks to aluminium alone. The A8 has always been my dream, has for my taste just a brilliant-reserving design and offers real living room atmosphere

On the point: because of the cost, I have the 2.8 in my head, maximum the 3.7 in my head. Who can give me some tips on what I should pay attention to in general?
There's a 2.8 as 24 and 30 valves. Is one to be preferred? Switch or automatic (bin cruiser, no raser)? The old 24 valve with 174hp still has a normal automatic transmission, the 30 valve with 193hp generally the Tiptronic - which of course makes me more itchy. Which one is more vulnerable? And compared to the manual transmission?
I know the 2.8 engine a little bit, the 3.7. Is there anything to consider (diseases, special maintenance posts)?
To the sheet metal: A body builder once told me that more serious accidents in the A8 are a huge problem (straight pulling is not there). Basically, deformed sheet metal can only be exchanged with the A8 (since aluminium cannot be bent, but breaks)...or how? What's to be looked at here?
What should I pay attention to in general with the A8, resp. What does it like to break?
How is a defective automatic transmission noticeable?
Many questions of an A8 newcomer...I am happy about every answer!
