Hello everybody,

My V8 is model 1989 and I have a second for spareparts. I can not use the engine and the gearbox from the s-partcar, but I am planning to buy another V8. Question is; if my spareparts car is 1989 and the second car I will buy is 1990 or 1991, are there so much differences that some elements do not fit? So should I stick to 1989 models.

Ay Perttu,
the differences are in the later models 1991-1993. Audi changed some electric stuff and the main elements of the climate-control. So I think you should try to find an earlyer car with the same engine as yours (so the control-boxes are the same) (control-boxes...? right word...? Steuergeräte in German...), besides the fact that the cars after 1991 are more expensive.
I'm still not satisfied with these control-boxes...
The computer that controls ignition-point and things like that...
And if possible you should try to find a V8 with the same extras, interior and colours, sometimes little things like switches or locks get broken.

Yeah, yust decided to take some lessons in technical English. Would be better for me.

Thank you for your answer. I am coming to Germany probably next week to buy
a V8. Trying to find a -89-90 model with all possible extras. Max. km should be app. 135.000. So if you have any tips, please inform me.

More expensive? The early cars were V8 Exklusiv only!

The cheaper V8 with velour-seats and missing climate control were available from 1991.

For parts I would prefer the V8 with the best overall condition (in relation to a good price)- independent from its manufacturing date. Especially with S8 engine and tiptronic transmission in Pertuu's case. The changes after 1999 were minor and mainly affected the control units.

Hi,

I already have the sparepart car bj. 1989. The car I am now looking for is another V8 for everyday usage. I probably will buy an exclusive 1989 model, though I have also checked if I could find a late -91 4,2. The ones I have seen have been too much driven. Could somebody tell me when they started to sell 4,2?

Can anyone understand what makes this car so expensive? Reason must be the dealer or is there something I don´t understand. 89.000 km but still 19.900 DEM is far from realistic or is it?

The 4.2l engine were available from 1991.

A well maintained V8 with high mileage could be better than a carelessly one with 80.000km, 6 pre-owners, and only a few service records. A higher mileage on a Audi V8 doesn't indicate an expiry date.

"control boxes" seems perfectly reasonable to me. Here is the US we can't seem to figure out what to call them. They are refered to as ECM (electronic control module), PCM (powertrain control module), Controller, Black Box, or even "that $&@^%@*# computer" . In the vocabulary of those of us that know and love the V8 so much the Motronic gets a few special names.........NOtronic, Moronic, etc..etc.. etc..

Prices around DM 10.000 are realistic for a 4,2 at good health. You sometimes can buy this car for 3000 or 4000 DM, but most of these occasions become very expensive because of the parts you need to keep them running.
The dealer you mentioned in the link ist the former Vomberg GmbH, and here ist the biggest Problem with these guys... They are much too expensive (my opinion, others say they are okay...)

Thanks for your comments and help. I have bought now a new V8 to our family, a 3,6 exclusive -89 with only 135.000 km (that was my limit). They have made the bigh service at 100.000 worth app. 4.500 Dem, also rest of the history is good. Price was 7.400 which is reasonable. Last V8 i bought (the spare part car) was -89, 169.000 km and price 6.400.

Both cars I have found from Mobile.de where I have found also my Audi 100 Coupe S and one Audi 200 (type 43).
