Hi! i Have a friend who has an -91 Audi V8 with the 3.6 litre V8 and 4 speed automatic gearbox.

When he starts the car cold, it has problems starting, stops if you dont push the gas, the exaust gas is black/blueish. When the car is warm it starts without trouble if you tun off the engine and starts it right away. If you wait about 5-10 minutes or more it becomes hard to start it again, but this time te exaust gas is just black.

I suspect that it gets too much petrol in the starting moment, i have measured the tempprobe on the back off the right cylingerhead, according to my info that one is for the engine control. It sems to be ok, i had about 360 Ohms when the engine was about 90-95 degrees warm.

The car also "rocks" when you accelerate slowly, like it gets too much/too little fuel all the time. Hard to describe in english, im from sweden and i dont talk/write german...

I would like to check the Lambda Probe, but i cant find the connecting wires for it, havent cheched under the car though...

Does anyone know what the fault could be???

Best regards,
Björn Söderberg

Hello

before i begin to write you must know that my englisch is not so fine .
I must think that the engine (all zylinder) are working ??!
The first to checked part ist the Air/Fuel sensor (Lambda) , I think that is the favourite problem . To test this one you must put out the connection wires from the sensor . The place is under the left ignition on the zylinderhead and the gearbox .
One wire has the colour in black and is lonly connector in the place .
The other one will be in white and it has two cable-connector in the same place .
The engine must be run ok or better then before...
The other one is the thempprobe ... i would take an other one (new) also you will think he`s ok . His colour is also white !

Check tis out and take the info in this Thread .

see you

PS: if you have a black or black/blue exaust gas the engine had too much petrol

Hello Björn,

I think the fuel pressure regulator needs to be replaced. Here is a link to my friend's webpage with the instructions on how to change it out:
http://www.geocities.com/cobramsri/Regulator.html

Make sure to unplug the fuse for the fuel pump and then try to start the car; this will remove the fuel pressure and keep the gasoline out of your eyes when you remove the part. Don't ask me why I know this

I hope this helps.

Regards,

- Jeremy
