PLEASE HELP .
I HAVE THIS 1991 V8 QUATTRO WITH A REMANUFACTURE TRANS. WITH 2K MILES ON IT. THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS HARD AND IT BANGS HARD WHEN COMING TO A STOP.
SOMETIMES DICONNECTING THE BATTERY SEEMS TO HELP AND AFTER SEVERAL MILES IT GOES BACK TO THE SAME .
IS THERE A WAY TO SET BASIC SETTINGS OR PERFORM ADAPTATION IN THE
AUTOMATIC TRAN. CONTROL UNIT?

first thing you have do is checking the ATF oil level in your automatic gearbox.
Do you know, how it works (to check it)?

Yes, I have checked oil level, and even changed oils and filter... three times, to be sure. All beginnig when my wife nephew loan our V8 for few months and, of course, handbrake was stucking on (winter in Finland, you know). Few hundreds km to drive with handbrake, and result was that.

I get same symptom when handbrake was stuck, but I was release it immediately, and transmission works fine again. This time releasing was helping a little, but bangs are still very hard.

Our Audi is not in everyday use any more, somekind of part-time retirement I think. But still, I really want her back to road again.

I'not sure (V8 is only freetime-job), but it sounds like killed clutches inside the gearbox if the brakes are on for longer time. What mileage is at your car ( the gearbox)?

Well, if transmission slips even little, I agree you opinion about friction plates... but no slipping at all... just very hard upshift and great bang when downshift to first gear.

After all, I`m somekind of professional about automatic transmissions, but these with "brains" make me little hesitating.

If I`m right, you have fluent germany? Do you have seen any similar problems in german forum? My germany is even worse than my english

Some people have had results after disconnecting the battery for more than five minutes which is supposed to reset the ECU. This is only anecdotal information but it is worth trying.
