What I need is pictures or information regarding the engines mounts on the ABZ when mounted in a V8 chassis.
There are a number of fundamental similarities between the ABH and ABZ engines. However, there are several major differences, including
ABZ is mounted to the subframe on A8 car, I believe
ABZ has a more compact oil cooler and cartridge filter
What I want to explore is-
Will the ABZ mount up to a standard V8 auto transmission? I have a spare transmission sitting on a pallet.
Will the ABZ physically fit in the engine bay, using either standard or modified/fabricated mounting brackets?
From information gleaned over about a half dozen sites, it appears that ABH cams will run in the ABZ heads, which would make it possible to use the existing electronics, with a different engine, albeit substantially the same.
Likewise, ABH heads have been used on AEC engine, apparently. (a project in the USA)
Which suggests that the inlet manifold may be useable.
My problem is one of sourcing viable early V8 engines. I have been offered several in the UK, but all have been such an unknown quantity- either they have not been running for a decade, sitting on a pallet, or they are actually in pieces, meaning a substantial rebuild is required, before even being able to run the engine.
Both of these options, I'm sure you will agree, are not practical.
So far, there have been several loose bits of information that the ABZ will fit in place of ABH or later engine on the S4 and S6plus. AEC? Axx?
There are a few pictures of V8 cars with A8 engines installed.
There have been no reports that the ABZ definitely won't fit with minimal work to install it.
By minimal work, I mean-
relatively easy fabrication or modification of the engine brackets.
mate sup to the V8 auto box
Unlike ABH or PT engines, ABZs are relatively plentiful here
If there is any clear information, it would be appreciated .
