Hi Everyone,
I am fitting my Audi 4.2l ABH v8 in my kitcar. The ecu I am using is a Megasquirt MS1 V3 using wasted spark and a 36-1 trigger wheel on the front pulley.
I am using 2 ford coil packs.
Has anyone done something similar?
Does anyone know what the ignition advance settings are?

I have set the wasted spark pairs as:
1 - 6
5 - 3
4 - 7
8 - 2

The engine fires but backfires through the inlet manifold and out of the exhaust, so something is wrong. I have a great spark and fuel
Any help would be awesome as I am going crazy trying to get this started!

Yes, I hope so, with wasted spark you fire 2 cylinders together.
So you fire the cylinder on compression and exhaust together. I have set the advance at 10 degs btdc, but I have no idea if its right or what the fuelling should be set to.

I think the firering order would fit, but what´s about the fuel injection?
Normally the injektion valves are paired, maybe you have to switch them alone, that´s perhabs the problem. It can be also a timing problem of ignition and injection.

I'm firing the injectors in 2 batches, left and right bank. 4 squirts per cycle, so there is plenty of fuel.
I need to know the ignition advance settings. I need to know someone who has put a Megasquirt on a V8 .

The mark on the front pulley, I assume that is TDC cylinder 1?

Aha - i see someone else has fallen for the trick timing mark.

It's for #5 TDC. Knowing that earlier would have saved ME about three weeks.

Hi - I know thise are a old post, but I hope you still read the forum. How are your prosject?

I have just converted a similar engine in my Audi 80 prosject,with microsquirt V3, simmilar to megasquirt 2. Using, Edis-8, ford coils, GM MAP / TPS / CTS / AIT and L-2 Inovate lamdasonde.

Have you or anyone else got a good running msq / fuel- and ignition tables to share?

Hi Petter, the project is fine. I have the engine running perfectly. the ABH is dead and I now have a 3.7 AEW, same engine just smaller.
If you goto www.madmechanics,com, and contact me through the Zonda buildf story in the build forum I can send you the MSQ I am using.. The engine is really really sweet

For N/A I can give you some values from the original motronic.
At WOT 6000RPM you have ~24°, in part load (low) ~33°.
Idle at 10° works ok.
For the beginning this should work.

the pistons melted into the sides of the bores and the engine went BANG! its on youtube http://youtu.be/ID5D728VGyw

The previous owner of the car had run it without water I think and melted the insides. The new AEW is perfect, I have just changed all the valve stem seals, and am doing a cambelt change. Hopefully I will get its started today.

Turbo with stock CR? Oha :-D

Do you have pictures of the damage?
Melted piston is normally a lean mixture or a lot of knocking.
Without water it's more or less a seized piston.

Your description sounds not realistic to me!

If a block went dry, maybe the pistons melt to the cylinder - then you never will run the engine again... and why the white smoke?

More reasonable seems to me, headgasket damage -> water in oil and/or combustion chambers (white smoke) -> not enough lubrication -> piston damage.

Well, I know how it works with a dry block in front... 7 Years ago... 50km, including traffic jam (half an hour in Zurich rush hour) and highway (120km/h and more) and at the last 10km a intensive inclination... replaced a hose, filled in coolantwater - it runs till bevore i come from work... 110tkm later...
