I am in need of a replacement, due to damage to mine from motorway debris. Mine is in pieces, and some bits are missing.
Fortunately, no damage to anything else.

I think they are slightly different between the early 3.6, and later 4.2, due to a few additional components. Mine was a 4.2 fitted to a 3.6.

So if anyone knows of one, or can let me know the german term so that I can search on ebay.de, I'd be grateful.

Doesn't Mark mean the "Unterbodenschutz", that is the synthetic cover under the entire front of the car?

It's not looking good so far. I will have to try and repair it/patch it while I hunt for a replacement.

I drive my V8 without it, and some other guys in the forum also. Others have the opinion it is necessary.
In the FAQ is a repair proposal for it, but it`s in german

Search "Unterfahrschutz" (it's totaly wrong word, but the German say it anyway) the english direkt term is "underride guard", so you understand what i mean wat's wrong... Trucks and trailers need a "underride guard", not a sedan... but the German....

Other search terms are "Motorkapselung", "unterer Motorschutz", "Motorgeräuschdämmung" "Geräuschdämmung" etc.

Well, given the damage the undertray/underthingywotsit suffered today, I am glad it was there. The alternative might be damage to something a little more leaky.
Based on the looks of the remains, I'd say something managed to snag the back end of the tray, pulling it backward, and out of it's clips at the front.
I'll go and hunt down the FAQ/repair. That'll keep me busy. I need to get on top of these things, as I shall be taking the car down to France and Switzerland at the end of the year.

I bought a second V8 for a fairly decent price. And with it comes a complete, new, never fitted, Unterfahrschutz.
In VAGCAT, it is listed in english as Sound deadener.
In audi parts department it is priced as equivalent to some national debts!

Are these meant to be treated with any sealer/paint/preparation against long term exposure to road debris?

Yeah, its a sound deadener, not a Unterfahrschutz... "Unterfahrschutz" means "underride barrier" for trucks... what car should underride a AudiV8? especially on front?


You don't need to tread it with something, FBE coating... and black paint...
