I recently changed the timing belt on my 91 Audi V8 with a 4.2 from a 93. The first time, i got the timing one tooth off, and it ran very poorly, if at all.
Anyway, i purchased all the needed tools, the cam locks and everything, and set it correctly this time. However, it wont start.
Last week i purchased a Ross Tech diagnostics unit to hook up to my laptop. Here are the five fault codes it gave me for the engine.

I have ordered a camshaft positions sensor from my mechanic, and am waiting for it to come in. I have also read that the Throttle position switch may need to be cleaned, i will post the link later.
Any ideas what to do? It turns over and everything, and sometimes it almost starts, but doesn't. I can post a video tonight or tomorrow.

Hi Greesha, perhabs a problem of engine grounding. Do you checked the grounding copper wire at the left side of engine?

I am pretty sure that the timing is correct this time. When we first set it it was off, but I purchased the locking plates and we set it correctly. Does anyone know where I can find a hall sensor? This is the only one I can find, but i think that it is for the V8 engines in the A8. http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi---V8/ES1876/ES1876/ Final note, would be help to clear the fault codes, and try running them again, because I did not clear them of read them after the first timing belt?

That hallsensor doesn´t fit. The Bosch-No. of the sensor of the V8 is 1 237 031 339.

Your Hallsensor you find in the distributer on the Passengers side. You can change the distributer with the sensor or you change the Hallsensor it self.

I checked the engine ground, it is soaked in all sorts of crap, but is connected. Small update: I erased all the codes, and tried starting the engine again. Only 2 codes now: Sunday,20,February,2011,18:02:42:38869 VCDS Version: Release 10.6.3 Data version: 20101206

00518 - Throttle Position Sensor (G69) 30-00 - Open or Short to Plus 00513 - Engine Speed Sensor (G28) 03-00 - No Signal
Readiness: N/A
So I am guessing I got the timing correct this time. I have a new audi engine speed sensor.
Does the throttle position sensor also need to be changed?

Hi Greesha, you can check the throttle position sensor. Disconnect it and check the resistance of it. Between pin 1 and 2 (of the potentiometer) 2 kiloohms, between pin 2 and 3 (or was it pin 1 and 3) there´s something between 1kohms up to 2.8 - 3kohms, depending on opening the throttle. Check out the pins on corrosion and humidity. Greets
