My Audi dealership just quoted me Euro 1300.00 for the replacement of springs and shocks,,,,WHAT!!! Sounds like a joke to me. :-( Maybe I could use something else?...
How about lowering the suspension. There are loads of aftermarket spares with offers for lowered suspension and as the v8 is a model hat is on the fadeout you might be able to get a barging.
Yes, there is probably something else I could do. Down here (in Spain) there is this place called Feuwert that does all the main things like suspension and brakes etc. But is there anything that I need to worry about regarding the way it is fitted? Like, are they going to do a good job? Is the audi v8 pretty straight forward to change the suspension on compared to other cars I mean. I just don't want to go and get a [censored] job done somewhere.... But 1300 Euro....:-(
Hi Maik, Well, the car kinda "tilts" ever so slightly to one side. Also, seems to "bob" about a little bit on the road. Figured after 14 years, and probably never having had the springs or shocks replaced, it might give me the driving pleasure I would want/expect. Are say Koni/Bilstein shocks and say H&R springs (lowering springs) better than the original shocks/springs would you say?
Well, whether it will help me find a cheaper solution I don't know, but yes, I would love a copy of your suspension diagram. Are you going to send it via email? If so here it is : cyberworld@gibnynex.gi
Would you believe my pc was formatted and my emails were not saved! I have since been back to the Audi dealer in Algeciras (southern Spain) and just told them to go ahead with the replacement.... Bloody expensive, but having looked on the net for prices of shocks and springs, the price seems to go close to 900 Euro (Koni/Bilstein), so labour 400 Euro, hmm, well fair enough I suppose. At least it is the original thing if that was ever any better.
I have H&R springs w/ Bilstein shocks courtesy of AVS in Adna, Washington, USA (360) 748-8578. This set-up lowered the vehicle about 1 inch (25.4 mm). The steering w/ 17X8 wheels fitted with 235x45 tires is more precise. The ride is much "stiffer". The total cost with installation was about the same as what you paid.
hi i have a 3.6 v8 in uk as you say dearlerds juast take the piss i do like 1000 miles per week in mine so besides racking the miles and always getting one thing or another going wrong so i get all my bits from www.vagparts.com talk to martyn the guys know the v8s inside out and saved me so much money on om stuff.you can get holed of me at hovercraft2003@hotmail.com if you need a hand cheers mat
I recently replaced the shocks and kept the springs, they were ten years old. I took Fichtel & Sachs gas shocks, (and I replaced the top bearings at the same time-Audi original parts, about 100 € the pair) bought from an ordinary spare parts dealer at 160€, fitting them cost me about 80€. The result was amazing completely diffent handling.
