The heating is lost in my ECC 1992 V8,
after visiting a shopping mall I thought the car was quite warm so I selected temperature "LO" on the ECC. Shouldn´t have done that, now it is stuck as it seems.

According to the service manual an ECC fault code I have is C1, "Heizungsventil geschlossen".

Can anyone please tell if this "Heizungsventil" controls the airflow or the coolant fluid? Where is it located?

Thanks!

Thomas

its for the coolantfluid, open the motorhood, then you see in front of the windshield a black cover, putt it away, then look at driver's side to the black-box in the middle, there goes along two pipes, in one of them its the "Heizungsventil"... steered by vacuum...

Many thanks Roy. I will look into it this evening. We have -15 degrees Celsius in Stockholm at present so I could do with some heating.

Roy's hint is good, another one could be that your temperature flap control is broken. Are you able to read out the error codes from the AC (manually by pressing the respective keys - there are also English how-tos around on the net).

I guess your engine becomes as warm as it should (90°C)?

I have a progress report. A plastic lever for the temperature control flap was broken. Appears to be available as spare part for about 3 Euros. I set the the control flap to full heating while waitng for the spare lever. Like a sauna, really nice.

Thanks everyone.

Hi,

good, I had the feeling that it's the flap control. But if you really have an error regarding the valve, you should also double-check that one. I could imagine that somebody had a lecking valve once in the past and instead of replacing it properly it had simply been removed. Upside: cheap. Downside: It takes longer until the engine becomes warm.

Have a look behind the block and check if the valve is still there and connected (and if it's working).

Bastian
