I have a 1990 Audi V8 Quatro, I am thinking of buying a performance chip which will reprogram the computer that controls the engine, that should add about 22Hp.
did anybody had this kind of thing done to V8? Any bad expiriences?
Thanks.
this is where they are sold: http://www.euro-car-service.com/V8.htm

Haven't heard of any V8 owners on the US www.audifans.com V8 list using the TAP chip, but a number of V8 users in the US have used a chip sold by Ned Ritchie from Intended Acceleration. So far the V8 list in the US has had favorable comments on the chip and the service. The advertised performance gains appear to be the same as the TAP chip.

The Intended Acceleration site is: http://www.intendedacceleration.com

Hope this helps

George

A friend of mine is into this world of reprogramming ECUs.
He states that to this motor with another chip , the effect will only be modest.
Anyway , the chips are still available.
My personal opinion about getting more power from the engine is some modification to the exhaust system. I think it is very restrictive.
Any comments are welcome.

Hallo!

Yeah, I have heard the same but I have ordered one chip for my engine to try it out myself.
One Norweigan guy at the Nordic Audi forum reported that he was satisfyed with the ECU chip change on his 3.6 automatic he claimed that the gearchanges was affected in a positive manor as well.
And yes the exhaustsystem is very restrictive on the V8.
I have changed the last muffler to a less restrictive unit and I have removed the lid over the intake for more air. And sound!

AAHHH! So far so god I have recived my tuningchip today and ofcourse I installed it directly. No faultcodes detectded, so it was time to turn on the ignition, Contact!
Rumbelybumbely... Wow! It was a sound difference, the engine sounds more peppy and it is more peppy to. I have only sommertires so any real tests can´t be performed at this point(Snow). The throttle responce is improved and it is a sound improvement over the whole register. I´m very satisfyed at this point.
Thank you, RDI-Motorsport! http://www.rdi-motorsport.com/home/home.html
The chip: V8 4,2L 280 PS ABH ca. 014 KW / 019 PS 30 Nm 498,00 DM

Is it easy to install a chip into ECU?

Hi!

It´s very easy, no soldering just swap chip.
The hardest part is to open the box and remove the upper circuitboard, the upper row of the connector is attached to this board and you need 2 small screwdrivers to hold the lips in the connector field when you pull out the board.

see link for an overview: http://www.urs4.com/technical/UrS4_MTM1+.html

Note non turbo cars have only one chip.

Happy chipping!

I know of three chips for the V8. Tap1.com, intendedacceleration.com, and powerchipgroup.com. I hope this helps my V8 people.
