You can no longer buy R12 - or Freon as you call it. It is not legal, you would need a special permit.

What people do is they either either retrofit to R134a - like cars from say 93/94 and onwards use, or they use one of the blends - like R409a. R409a is a direct drop-in refrigerant. I used it in my Ford Granada for some time, before retrofitting to R134a. R409a is a blend of R22, R124 and R142b. Low ozone depleting, closely resembles R12, and you can use the oil already in the system. This is NOT the case when retrofitting.

When retrofitting, you will have to flush the system, use oil meant for R134a (PAG or PAO) and please... change those o-rings...
