My '92 V8 4,2 ABH has the same problem. It is quite easy to tell if the smoke is caused by the engine burning oil. Simply keep an eye on your oil level. Everytime I have had a heavy right foot, my oil level has decreased a lot, and the cars behind me are covered in smoke. Some say faulty crankcase breather hoses are to blame for high oil consumption, or possibly worn valve guides. In the worst case, the cylinder linings could be worn out, and then the only way to fix the problem, is to replace the entire engine with a used one in better condition.
