When I "step on it" with my 93 S4 it really smokes badly.
AFAIK white smoke indicates a waterleak, blueish smoke indicates burnt oil and black smoke uncombusted gasoline.
My smoke i black, yet it smells of oil.
Where to start the troubleshooting?
Regards...

Hello Kent, My '92 V8 4,2 ABH has the same problem. It is quite easy to tell if the smoke is caused by the engine burning oil. Simply keep an eye on your oil level. Everytime I have had a heavy right foot, my oil level has decreased a lot, and the cars behind me are covered in smoke. Some say faulty crankcase breather hoses are to blame for high oil consumption, or possibly worn valve guides. In the worst case, the cylinder linings could be worn out, and then the only way to fix the problem, is to replace the entire engine with a used one in better condition. Good luck, greetings from Denmark

First the valve lid gasket and the cylinder head gasket checks sometimes. Mostly the problem already lies here. Should he smoke afterwards still strongly and lose oil, it can also lie with the valve stem gaskets or piston rings.

Alles wird gut!
