I have a V8 quattro 5 speed and the linkage seems broken. wont go into 2nd, 4th, or Reverse without taking the shift boot off. Once the boot is off I can grab the shifter at the base and yank it back into second and 4th and reverse. Is there some way to pull the whole thing out and get a look at it without pulling the transmission.

Hello from Hesse!
Can you move the yellow/golden bracket with the 4 screws?

Hi Mario M from Hesse.
I can get that gold bracket out, just need to reach around the transmission from under the car and detach the linkage some how.
maybe the stabilizer broke? The rod attached to the ball socket keeps it from sliding around. Pic above. Should I try to take that off from under the car?

If the shitfterbracke is moving, maybee the threadbolts which are weldet to the transmission tunnel and holding the bracket are rippt of the tunnel. then shifting feels like "stiring in dough".

You should be able to reach the bolts from underneath the car. It is a good idea to use tipex or other marking on the rods before losening the bolts. If you are somebite lucky maybe its just a loose bolt causing your problem.
