Each time I start the car, it will not make 1st to 2nd shift, until the engine reaches approximately 3000 rpm, regardless of engine load. If I turn the S-E-M switch to the "M" position, the transmission immediately makes the upshift. After a couple of minutes of driving, everything is OK! I have changed the engine (because of very high oil consumption) and transmission, aswell as the Motronic and transmission control unit. The new (used) transmission acts exactly like the old one. Any ideas?

We have had the same diskussion long time ago at this forum and a lot of users describe your "problem", it's to reach running temperature as fast as possible.

Probably u have the same problem, what i have! U dont have 1 and 2 gear, but in 3000rpm get in to the 3rd? And it does work through M position? Have u ever change in fast the gear R to D? Have u the "Limp home mode" in your gearbox - all lights on! There is one stuff inside it I dont know in english! It can be turn just to one direction! I did it one time and I broke my gearbox! It can be dameged when u r changing the gearbox as well! Now I have to take off the gearbox and fix it it will cost 500 lats in Riga!

Thanks for your quick replies. I have never experienced the "limp home mode" with the transmission, neither have i changed between ANY ranges, except D-3-2-1 when the car is in motion. The explanation of the "phenomenon" being a way of obtaining operating temperature within a few minutes, sounds reasonable to me.

water pump is ok? have u ckecked the cooling liquid way? Is it full?
